Glenn M. Stottlemire

Glenn M. Stottlemire, 97, of Ottawa, Kansas, formerly of Rantoul, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 16, 2015, at Vintage Park of Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Ruhamah Baptist Church, Rantoul. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul, Kansas. Glenn was born Tuesday, August 27, 1918, in Maitland, Missouri, the son of James E. and Essie (Fleener) Stottlemire. He was baptized in the First Methodist Church of Maitland and maintained strong Christian and moral principles throughout his life. Out of high school, Glenn worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps with his brother Eldon during the Great Depression. They were stationed in Washington State and southern Missouri creating parks and land conservation facilities. Glen met Eva Marie Welton while working the coal mines in Wyoming in 1938. They were married in 1939 and moved to Rantoul, Kansas, where they had a daughter and two sons. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Eva; daughter, Ruth Adele; and son, James M. Stottlemire. He is survived by his son, John L. Stottlemire and wife Carrie of Taneytown, Maryland; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Glenn worked as a skilled machinist and farmer throughout his life. He loved making and repairing equipment in his machine shop. He also loved sports and served as a coach for a number of fast pitch softball teams in the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1970s and 1980's, he served as an umpire. Glenn was hard working and dedicated to the Franklin County Services for the Elderly, serving on the board. He dedicated many hours and made significant donations to the construction and operation of the Community Center in Rantoul. Glenn will be missed by all.
