Glenda Faye Carver

Glenda Faye (Gieber) was born November 16, 1931, at Overbrook, Kansas. She was the daughter of Russell D. and Flossie M. (Carver) Gieber. She lived in Overbrook and Quenemo as a child before moving to Ottawa where she’d resided the majority of her life. Glenda passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the age of 92.

Services will be held 11:00 am., Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will greet friends 10:00-11:00 am, prior to services.

Inurnment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas, at a later date.

Glenda was a homemaker until her children were in school. She worked at Lincoln School, Parmalee for 9 ½ years and Allied Signal for 18 years, retiring in 1994. Later she worked as a handicap bus driver and para until retiring again in 2014.

Glenda was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church. She taught Menninger Bible study for 28 years.

On August 27, 1949, Glenda was united in marriage with the love of her life, Jack R. Elder in Ottawa, Kansas. After Jack’s death, she married Merle Taylor, Sr. After his death, Glenda later married Don Carver who passed away as well.

Survivors include four sons Jack “Randy” Elder and his wife Connie, Willie Elder, Barry Elder of Ottawa, Dennis Elder of Moses Lake, Washington; one daughter Teresa Wheat of Ottawa; one foster child Cindy K. Cowdin of Desoto; two sons-in-law Walter Vogeler of Ottawa and Victor Shenk of Desoto; one brother Marvin Gieber of Yuba City, California. Glenda had twenty-two grandchildren; forty-six great grandchildren; and sixteen great-great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; daughter Joyce Vogeler; sisters Helen, Vivian, Betty, Twila, Lorene, Gladys, Corrine and Carole; brothers Cleo, Rusty, Rodney, Loren, and Clifford; foster child Brad Cowdin; daughter-in-law Linda Elder; and son-in-law Brad Wheat; grandson Quintin Elder; and great-great grandson Reign L. Coleman.

Glenda enjoyed sharing her love of life with her family. She spent endless hours teaching them the art of cooking and making the perfect shaped roll, teaching them to crochet and doing the jitterbug. Lawrence Welk, old westerns, Hee Haw, and Gospel music were all things she enjoyed. Glenda was an avid cheerleader and supporter of her grandchildren’s lives and was excited to learn about their interest.

Glenda faithfully cared for family, friends, and people in need. As a woman of faith and the matriarch of her family, Glenda shaped their spirituality by her unwavering Christian faith. She will always be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and woman of unwavering faith in God.
