Gertrude Eva Shumate

Gertrude Eva Shumate, 89, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Rock Creek of Ottawa, Ottawa, Kansas.

Graveside service will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Mount Zion Cemetery in Vassar, Kansas.

Gertrude was born Wednesday, January 30, 1935, at Vassar, Kansas, the daughter of Max and Anna (Bachert) Schumann.

She was a lifelong resident of Ottawa graduating from Appanoose High School with the class of 1953.

Gertrude was united in marriage with Allen Lee Shumate December 23, 1955 at Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death February 11, 2013.

Gertrude was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafting, sewing and was always ready to try a new recipe, but especially loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Allen; parents; and siblings, Gary Schumann and Erma (Houston).

Survivors include sons, Lee Shumate of Ottawa, Kansas and Jeff Shumate (Nancy) also of Ottawa, Kansas; grandchildren, Amy Carlson (Jared), Joshua Shumate, and Linda Shumate (Drew White); great grandchildren, Madelyn Williams, Brylin Langston, Connor Shumate, Hailey Shumate, Abel Shumate and Olivia Carlson.
