George S. Bell, 73, of Pomona, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 4, 2019 at the mortuary. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. George was born October 27, 1945, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Bert and Leoda (Schoonover) Bell. He was a lifelong Pomona and Quenemo area resident. George graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1963. He served in the Kansas National Guard from 1963 to 1971. George was married to Shirley Naydeen Butts August 20, 1967, in Quenemo. They later divorced. George was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Long December 3, 1985, in Pomona. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three sons, Jim Bell and wife Liz of Chapman, Jeff Bell and wife Echo of Quenemo, and Harold Bell and wife Lucinda of Ottawa; brother, Joe Bell and wife Loretta of Paola; sister, Carrie Smith and husband Ben of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, Bert and Leoda Bell; brother, Bert “Sonny” Bell; and sister, Marcell Vest. For 37 years, George was in the warehouse receiving and shipping area working for three different companies in the same location which included, Western Electric, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies, retiring in 2003. George always looked forward to family gatherings and sharing stories. He enjoyed helping his family and friends, fishing, hunting, working with horses, and having a vegetable garden.
