George A. Zook, Sr.

George A. Zook, Sr., age 74, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on Thursday, June 11, 1936, in Ottawa, the son of George Edward and Margaret Catherine (Davies) Zook. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas. He was owner and operator of Zook’s Floor Service in Ottawa over thirty years. George was deeply devoted to his family and looked forward to their family gatherings. He enjoyed working on classic cars and was an expert in woodworking. He served in the United States Army National Guard. On Tuesday, January 3, 1978, George was united in marriage with Judy A. Geiger in Lawrence, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2006. George is survived by two sons, George A. Zook, Jr. and his wife, April, of Ottawa, Kansas, Terry Lee Zook and his wife, Sandra, of Garnett, Kansas; two daughters, Wanda Susie Beaty and her husband, Leroy, of Lebo, Kansas, Laura May Zook of Ottawa, Kansas; sister, Janice Tucker of Lawrence, Kansas; stepson, Larry Harris of Ottawa, Kansas; stepdaughter, Penny Schulz of Ottawa; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, George is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (Baldwin) Zook; two daughters, Barbara Ann Curtis and Shirley Dillon; son, Robert Duane Zook; and two brothers, Marion Zook and Kenneth Zook. SERVICES: Mr. Zook will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2011, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, where family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday evening. Cremation is planned following visitation. CEMETERY: A private family inurnment will be at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.
