Gary W. Mason

Gary W. Mason, 54, of Lawrence, Kansas passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held at the Richmond Cemetery, 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Mason at Dengel Son Mortuary from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Tuesday. Gary was born on Saturday, July 11, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of William and Alice (Taylor) Mason. He grew up and attended high school in Basehor, Kansas. He lived in Lawrence since 2005. He previously lived in California and Chanute for short periods of time. Survivors include his mother of Ottawa; and sister, Beverly King of St. Paul, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Carl Mason. Gary worked as a skilled laborer doing construction, roofing, truck driving and later I.T. work. He was a social service volunteer for Penn House in Lawrence. Gary had many friends in the Lawrence and Basehor area. He will be remembered as a kind and caring person who loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his little dog Peppy, who was his constant companion and always at his side.
