Frederick E. Ferguson, age 87 of Ottawa, Kansas, died at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence, KS. He was born on Friday, May 19, 1922 in Ottawa, KS, the son of Chester Ferguson and Flossie (Hume) Ferguson. Fred was a lifelong resident of Ottawa, born in the house on the farm north of Ottawa, where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1942. Over the years, Fred worked for Warner Brothers, Union Gas, and Ottawa Coop; was manager of the Richmond Coop, manager of the Lawrence North Elevator and assistant manager of the Edgerton Coop, and also farmed throughout his life, including a large hog farm operation, retiring in the late 1990's. He became a Franklin County Commissioner, serving from 2000 through 2004, and was a founding member of Franklin 5 Water District, where he served on the board as secretary / treasurer for thirty-six years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Odd Fellows Lodge, holding all offices over the years; Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, also holding all of the offices over the years; the Ottawa Bowling Association, Franklin County Farm Bureau, and Chippewa Good Sams Camping Club. On June 9, 1943 Fred was united in marriage with Sheila Eoff at Ottawa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2000. On May 5, 2001 he was united in marriage with Phyllis Staadt-Curtis at Ottawa. She survives. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2009. IN STATE: Mr. Ferguson was cremated. The family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 Monday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to the Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
