Ellen Irene Reedy was born on September 13, 1921, in Rest, Kansas. She was the daughter of Henry Bert and Edna Edith (Barlow) Bird. She grew up around Neodesha, Kansas, lived in Bartlett, Kansas when she was first married, moved to Altamont, Kansas in late 1936, to the Kansas City area in 1960, Williamsburg, Kansas in 1975, and later to Garnett, Kansas where she made her home until her death on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the age of eighty-eight years. Ellen attended Neodesha schools. She attended Homewood Christian Church and was a member of Royal Neighbors of America. Ellen was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed needle crafting in her spare time. On Monday, March 2, 1936, Ellen was united in marriage with James Dowe “Bub” Reedy in Columbus, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1993. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Jack Reedy; two daughters, Pat Hamill, Maxine Garcia; two brothers, Charlie Smith, Oliver Bird; two sisters, Elsie Maciel, Ollie Powell; two grandsons, Brian Allen Reedy, Wesley Scott Reedy; three gt. grandchildren. Ellen is survived by her three daughters, Shirley Hughes and her husband, Gary, of Williamsburg, Kansas, Sandra Martin, Jamey Andrews and her husband, Richard, of Waverly, Kansas; two sons, Jerry Reedy of Rayville, Missouri, Curt Reedy of Waverly, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Nancy Reedy of Shawnee, Kansas; thirty-five grandchildren; seventy gt. grandchildren; fifty-four gt.gt. grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. IN STATE: Mrs. Reedy will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. CEMETERY: Mt. Hope Cemetery in Williamsburg, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Homewood Christian & Community Church, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
