Effie Mathews

Effie B. Mathews, age 103, of Paola, KS, passed away Sept. 5, 2008 at North Point Nursing Home, Paola. Services will be on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at 2:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Chapel, Paola, with the visitation being from 1-2:00pm prior to the service. Effie was born April 5, 1905, in Linn Creek, MO, to Edward and Cora Elizabeth Johnson Conner. On March 29, 1922, she was united in marriage to Jacob Clinton Owens in Missouri. He preceded her in death in December 1974. Effie was united in marriage to Ralph Mathews in 1976, in Paola, KS. He preceded her in death in 1987. Effie grew up in Linn Creek, MO. She moved to the Paola area in 1975. She was a seamstress and was last employed for the Wilson Sporting Goods Manufacturing in Kansas City, MO., before her retirement. Effie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking for family and friends, and an evening of dancing. She will be greatly missed by both family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; daughter, Vivian Less Reynolds; half-brother, Clarence Connor; half-sister, Flossie Roark.and 5 granddaughters, and 1 grandson She is survived by her daughters, Ruby Evelyn Sundermeyer of Bashoer, KS, Ruth Genevieve Boyer of Liberty, MO, Dorothy Jean Rose of Tonganoxie, KS, and Harriett Lee Paulsen of Paola, KS; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 47 great-great-grandchildren.
