Dr. William H. Hay, age 87 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at Ottawa. He was born on Tuesday, February 10, 1925 in Eskridge, Kansas he was the son of Robert Louis and Bessie Mima (Buck) Hay. Dr. Hay lived in Ottawa since 1958 moving here from Manhattan, Kansas He graduated from Neodesha High School in Neodesha, Kansas with the class of 1943 and Kansas State University with Bachelor’s Degrees of Science and Veterinary Medicine in 1952, and a Master of Science Degree in 1955. Doc was a veterinarian. He taught in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University from 1952 until 1958 when he moved to Ottawa and opened the Ottawa Animal Hospital with Dr. J. C. Smith and later opened the Veterinary Clinic. Doc served in the United States Naval Reserve from July 1943 until October 1, 1945, attaining the rank of Aviation Cadet. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medicine and Kansas Veterinary Medical Associations, American Quarter Horse Association, Kansas Quarter Horse Racing Association, Kansas Horseman Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, and the K-State Alumni Association. On August 15, 1953 Dr. Hay was united in marriage with Dorothy J. Dottie Martin at Manhattan, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2007. He is survived by his: Son - Scott A. Hay and his wife, Darlene, Fort Lauderdale, FL Daughter - Becky Turner and her husband, Dale, Hutchinson, KS Brother - Dr. Charles A. Hay, Brandon, FL Sister - Phyllis M. Newton, Woodland, CA Grandchildren - Ross, Joel and Mark Turner, Baylee, Lindsay and Kylee Hay Gt-Grandchildren - Avan Castic, Sean & Cason Turner He is preceded in death by his: Wife - Dorothy J. Dottie Hay His parents - Robert Louis and Bessie Mima Hay Sister - Betty L. Pritchard SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Westminster Presbyterian Church, 401 W 13th in Ottawa, Kansas at 10:00 AM, on Friday, June 8, 2012. IN STATE: Dr. Hay will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, June 7, where the family will meet with friends 7:00-8:00 PM, Thursday evening.
