Douglas C. “Doug” Putney, age 49, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012, in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on Tuesday, May 28, 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Dale Allan and Myra Jean (Colin) Putney. Doug grew up in Minnesota and Michigan. He later moved to Topeka. He lived in Vassar eleven years and then moved to Ottawa in 2011. Doug attended Topeka High School. He was a cook working at Country Kitchen in Ottawa and Annie’s Restaurant in Topeka. From 1982 to 1988 Doug was an Infantryman with the United States Army and was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, and 39th Infantry. He served in the 143rd Signal Battalion while stationed in Germany. He obtained the rank of Specialist 4. On April 17, 1998, Doug was united in marriage to Angie English at Ottawa, Kansas. Doug is survived by his: Wife,Angie Putney of Ottawa, Kansas; Son,Mark Putney, Germany; Daughter,Jenny Kennedy, Germany; Daughter,Joni Putney of Overland Park, Kansas; Daughter, Chyanna Putney of Modesto, California; Son – Christopher Putney of Ottawa, Kansas; Brother, Dale Putney and wife Kristen of Topeka, Kansas; Brother, Brian Gaden of Topeka, Kansas; Brother, Bill Putney and wife Trucia of Pomona, Kansas; Sister, Barb Putney of Topeka, Kansas; Sister, Charlene Shaffer and husband Doug of Iowa; Sister,Brenda Habben and husband Harlen of Iowa and a Granddaughter, Adina Marie Kennedy. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Dale & Myra Putney. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 22, 2012. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Kansas National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Putney at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 21, 2012 to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday. CEMETERY: Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Doug Putney Memorial Fund c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
