Donna Mae Swearingen, age 81 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Thursday, February 7, 2013. She was born on Tuesday, December 15, 1931, in Marysville, Kansas, the daughter of Victor and Erma (Bull) Behrens, Sr. Donna moved to Ottawa in 1949 moving from Marysville. She graduated from Marysville High School with the class of 1949. On February 4, 1951 Donna was united in marriage with Dean C. Swearingen in Ottawa. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1980. During the 1950’s Donna worked at the Plaza Theater and an Ottawa dry cleaners. In the 1960’s she worked in the office of KOFO Radio. From 1976 until her retirement in 2006, Donna was a real estate agent affiliated with C. Lister and Associates for many years and later joined Lantis & Associates-Coldwell Banker both of Ottawa. She was a member and former secretary of the Ottawa Lions Club where she had also served as a district chairperson. She was a member and former secretary/treasurer of the Franklin County Board of Realtors. She was a member and held many offices with the Kansas Business and Professional Women and Ottawa Business and Professional Women. She was a Girl Scouts Troop Leader and was involved with Girl Scouts at a state level. Donna was also a member of the Hawthorne Elementary Parent Teacher Association. She is survived by her: Son – Robert R. Swearingen and wife Cheryl of Ottawa Daughter – Barbara A. Gibson and husband Will of Ottawa Son – Barry D. Swearingen of Ottawa Daughter – Laura K. Miller and husband Walter of Ottawa Sister – Delores M. Carlson and husband Richard of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri Brother – Victor W. Behrens, Jr. and wife Ann of Frankfort, Kansas Five Grandchildren Six Great Grandchildren She is preceded in death by her: Husband – Dean C. Swearingen Parents – Erma & Victor Behrens, Sr. VISITATION: Family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 13, 2012. CEMETERY: Cremation is planned. There will be a private family inurnment at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas at a later date.
