David Wayne Griffin, 72, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be held 10:30 am, Friday, September 22, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will greet friends at 9:30 am prior to services.
Interment Antioch Cemetery, Williamsburg, Kansas.
David was born Friday, May 18, 1951, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Rex and Patricia (Decock) Griffin.
He was a lifelong Ottawa resident.
David was united in marriage to Shirley Phillips on July 3, 1969, in Garnett, Kansas.
He worked as a residential carpenter for many years. David also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, Buildex, owner/operator of Griffins Bait & Tackle, and owner/operator of Fishin Hole Bait Shop, along with others.
David was a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, outdoors, camping, church, and bible study. David especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents Rex and Patricia; biological mother Delaine Smith; brother Stephen Griffin; and granddaughter Lindsey Griffin.
Survivors include wife Shirley; six children Kimberly Schmitz (Chris) of Williamsburg, Kansas, David Griffin Jr. (Mona) of Ottawa, Kansas, Rusty Griffin (Janet) of Princeton, Kansas, Robyn Spielman (Eric Gomez) of Ottawa, Kansas, Renee Barber (Larry) of Richmond, Kansas, and Jamie Swanson (Felix) of Summit, Mississippi; brothers Ted Griffin (Linda) of Ottawa, Kansas, Jerry Griffin (Charlene) of Garnett, Kansas; sister Cindy Wolfe of Ottawa, Kansas; twenty-four grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren.
