Darold Cain, 84, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Wellsville Health and Rehabilitation, Wellsville, Kansas.
Services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas. Family will greet friends from 5:30-7:30 pm, Monday, November 27, 2023, at the funeral home.
Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
Darold was born Wednesday, May 3, 1939, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Patrick Donald and Eva Josephine (Jackson) Cain.
He was a lifelong Ottawa resident graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1957.
In 1958, Darold was united in marriage with Carolyn Roush, they later divorced. He married Linda Sue Guist on June 2, 1971, in Kansas City. She preceded him in death on October 18, 2018.
Darold was the owner/operator of Cain Produce in Ottawa, Kansas for nearly thirty years. He was lovingly referred to as the “chicken man”. Darold managed the Pizza Shack at Pomona Lake in the late 1980s to mid-1990s. He worked for M & B Broasted Chicken in the late 1960s and the Franklin County Sherriff’s Department as a jailer and kitchen cook from the mid-1990s to mid-2005.
He was a former member of the First Christian Church, Ottawa, a former member of the Ottawa Lodge 803 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and a former member of the Aerie Lodge 2700 Fraternal Order of Eagles of Ottawa.
Darold enjoyed cooking, entertaining friends, tinkering, garage sales and auctions, and the Royals, Chiefs and KU Basketball.
He was preceded in death by his wife Linda; parents; and brothers Donald Cain and David Cain.
Survivors include children Cindi Miller (Richard) of Springdale, Arkansas, Joe Cain (Denise) of Greeley, Colorado, Amy Bulmer (Greg), Sara Caylor (Chad), and Jill Ferguson (Mike) all of Ottawa, Kansas; sister Sharon Hiner (Rex) of Greeley, Colorado; thirteen grandchildren April, Brett, Clint, Katherine, Sarah, Robi, Kyle, Brock, Payton, Ava, Amelia, Kate and Max; along with twelve great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Sheriff’s Department c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
