Cynthia L. Ayers, 72, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Olathe Hospice House. Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, Ottawa. Inurnment Centralia Cemetery, Centralia, Kansas. Cynthia was born Tuesday, December 5, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse and Bettie (Green) Spencer. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, moving to Centralia, Kansas. In 1970, Cynthia moved to Ottawa, where she made her home until her death. She graduated from Argentine High School, Kansas City, Kansas, with the class of 1962. Cynthia continued her education at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, graduating in 1966 with a bachelor of arts in education. Cynthia was united in marriage to Bill Ayers June 25, 1966, in Kansas City, Kansas. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her two sons, Jason Ayers and wife Jennifer of Kansas City, Missouri, and Ryan Ayers and wife Julie of Wamego; brother, Michael Spencer of Kansas City, Missouri; and five grandchildren, Tanner Ayers, Addison Ayers, Kylie Lipetzky, Jerrigen Ayers, and Ensley Ayers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Bettie Spencer; and infant brother, Jesse Spencer. Cynthia was employed as a teacher with Pomona High School teaching math and science for thirty-five years, retiring in 2001. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ottawa, Alpha Delta Kappa, a teacher's sorority, and volunteered at Hope House in Ottawa. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved being with her children and grandchildren. Cynthia enjoyed homemaking and playing Bunco.
