Clydene Owen, 78, of rural Osawatomie, Kansas, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017, at North Point Skilled Nursing Home in Paola, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary - Osawatomie Chapel. Family will meet with friends from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Osawatomie Cemetery. Phyllis Clydene Owen was born October 25, 1938, in Sedan, Kansas, the daughter of Loren Clyde and Nola Phyllis (Banning) Burch. She graduated from Howard, Kansas High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to James Neal Owen on June 2, 1956 in Anchorage, Alaska. They became the parents of five children. Neal preceded her in death on January 25, 1998. They lived in Manhattan, Kansas and Shawnee, Kansas until buying a farm in rural Osawatomie in 1971. Clydene was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on the farm. After his death, she continued living and working on the farm, caring for and tending to the farm animals, something she truly enjoyed. In 2002, the Owen farm received the Soil Conservation Grass Award. Clydene loved the outdoors, arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, and woodworking. She was a community leader, serving the Osawatomie 4-H Club and volunteering as the swine superintendent at the Miami County Fair for many years. She was also an active member of the Red Hats, the Ladies VFW Auxiliary, and the Green Valley Women's Club, a group she served as president. Her favorite pastime was the time she spent with her family. Survivors include one son Curtis Owen of Costa Mesa, California; four daughters Teresa (Bob) Allen of Osawatomie, Lorri (Adam) Jenson of Paola, Rhonda (Josh) Johnson of Osawatomie, and Britt (Scott) Hollister of Olathe; one brother Sonny (Mary) Burch of Ottawa, KS; 13 grandchildren April (Rob) Owens, Holly (Joe) Hewer, Robin Allen (Brian Robinson), Michele Prothe (Jake Wooten), Justine (Jeff) Conner, Dalton (Brittany) Johnson, Craig Johnson, Griffin Johnson, Danny Johnson, Scarlet Johnson, Alex Hollister, Alyssa Hollister, and Adilae Hollister; seven great grandchildren Madison Snider, Lucas Owens, Lilly Conner, Jeffrey Conner, Clayton Conner, Bentley Stewart, and Kendal Robinson; her many other relatives and close friends; and the caregivers at North Point and AseraCare Hospice whom she considered family.
