Charles Edward Gorges, Sr., age 82, of Hillsdale, Kansas passed away unexpectedly March 21, 2013 at his home. Charles was born on October 4, 1930 in Wichita to Anthony and Melissa Krump Gorges. He grew up in the Wichita area and after high school enlisted in the United States Army October 28, 1952 and received his honorable discharge on August 18, 1954. On August 4, 1962 Charles was united in marriage to Joan Brooks in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in the Paola area for the last 30 years. He taught auto mechanics for a few years at the Vo-Tec Center in Kansas City and also worked for his father in the oil fields before forming his own company the Pioneer Oil Corporation. Charles enjoyed the outdoors, tinkering with autos, and remodeling the house. He was a great craftsman and enjoyed working with his hands taking great pride in his work. Charles was awards committee chairman for Boy Scout Troop 100 and enjoyed participating in all of the scouting activities. He enjoyed helping others and was always available to give a helping hand or advice. He enjoyed traveling with his family especially to Branson and surrounding states. Charles was an avid Paola High School Panther fan and attended every game possible. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Richard and one sister Aileen. Surviving are his wife Joan of the home; one son Charles Edward "Ed" Gorges Jr. of Osawatomie; four grandchildren Ashleigh, Camden, Mason, and Cooper; one sister Dorothy Lloyd of Texas; and one brother Donald Gorges of California.
