Don E. and Carol A. Fleming passed away peacefully at Wellsville Retirement Community eighteen hours apart with their family by their side. Carol A. Fleming, age 91 of Wellsville, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Wellsville Retirement Community in Wellsville, Kansas. She was born on Thursday, April 13, 1922 in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Blaine and Gertrude (Mallory) Phillips. Donald E. Don Fleming, age 93 of Wellsville, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Wellsville Retirement Community in Wellsville, Kansas. He was born on Saturday, August 21, 1920 in Richter, Kansas, the son of Thomas H. and Ethelyn G. (Staadt) Fleming. SERVICES: A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Wellsville Community Center from 11:00 to 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 14, 2013. Following the service a picnic is planned at Celebration Park in Gardner, Kansas at 2:00 P.M. On Friday, August 7, 1942, Carol was united in marriage with Donald E. “Don Fleming in Ottawa, Kansas. They celebrated seventy-one years together. Carol lived in Gardner, Kansas for many years and has been a resident of Wellsville, Kansas for the last twenty years. Carol graduated from Ottawa High School and attended two years at Ottawa University. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her: Daughter - Judy Bono and her husband, Jack of Mooresville, Missouri Son – Tom Fleming and his wife, Kelly of Edgerton, Kansas Daughter – Becky See and her husband, Dwane of Ottawa, Kansas Son – David Fleming of Paola, Kansas Half-sister – Elaine Mustard of Leavenworth, Kansas Grandchildren – Seven Great Grandchildren - Nine She is preceded in death by her: Parents – Blaine and Gertrude Phillips Brother – Blaine Phillips Half-brother-Paul Phillips Don lived about half his life in Johnson County and the other half in Franklin County, Kansas. Don graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1937 and from Kansas State University in 1941 with a Degree in Milling. He was the owner and operator of the Gardner Elevator and after retirement did carpentry, flipping houses and kept busy with other odd jobs. Don served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 until October 1945, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was a member of and very active in the Wellsville United Methodist Church and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gardner and the Lion's club.
