Carl Eugene Russell, 73, died May 22 at his rural Paola, Kansas home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 11, 1935 in Osawatomie, Kansas, the son of George Tyler Russell and Ollie Katherine Wingfield. He attended Osawatomie schools. Carl married Nola Stanchfield on May 11, 1977. Carl was a cattleman, trucker, heavy equipment operator and race car driver. He was an avid slow pitch softball player, bowler, pool player and also enjoyed pheasant hunting and horseshoes until he was seriously injured in an accident in 2002. Carl also enjoyed restoring antique tractors with his brother-in-law Ray Stanchfield and loved talking auto racing with anyone. He is survived by his wife Nola; daughters Carla Bivins and her husband James, Kathy Tracy and her husband Joe, and Judy Cross and her husband Dane; sons Ty Russell and Tracy Russell and his wife Dixie; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ellen Dick and a brother Charles Pinneo, and many nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Richard, Obidiah, Harold and Raymond Russell and Roy Pinneo; sisters Betty Hendrickson and Doris Jean Prosser. A vistation will be held on Monday, May 25 from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 26 at 10:30 am. Both will be held at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Paola. Burial will be in the Osawatomie Cemetary. Pallbearers are all nephews of Carl. The family suggests contributions to the Miami County Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
