Boyd Hollinger

Boyd C. Hollinger, born March 2, 1910, passed away April 20, 2008, at North Point Skilled Nursing Center, Paola, Ks. following a brief illness. Services will be Wed. April 23, at 2PM at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, visitation, Tuesday evening from 6 to 7:30 PM. at the Penwell-Gable Funeral Home, burial Paola Cemetery. Memorials to the United Methodist Church. Boyd was well know in Paola, having lived in the Miami County area all his 98 years, and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. A charter member of Victory 4-H Club, he farmed from 1934 to 1954 and continued his love for gardening well into his 90"s, raising roses and tomatoes that he gladly gave away to relatives, neighbors and friend each year. Along with his gardening, Boyd loved to play pitch"wherever and whenever he could. He also spent a great many hours socializing at the Paola Senior Center. In 1951 he received the Miami County Bankers Award for soil conservation. From 1950 through 1962, he was Under Sheriff, then Sheriff of Miami County before joining the Paola Water Department and later becoming the City Street Superintendent, and finally retiring from public service 1975. A wonderful family man, Boyd is survived by his wife Charlene, sons, Ronald L. and Rex A. Hollinger of Paola and their wives Phyllis and Judy, respectively; sisters, Nadine Rose and Neava Myers, stepson Brad Christian and wife, Crystal, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents Lemuel and Delila, his first wife Esther Renner, brother Orville, sisters Lola Bethurum, Pearl Sims, Bernice Childs, Hazel Powell, and Ella Alpert; and grandchildren Randy, son of Rex and Judy and Mary Jo Hollinger, daughter of Ron and Donna, also daughter- inlaw Donna Hollinger. Boyd was a long-time member of First Methodist Church of Paola. He is at peace with the Lord.
