Betty Lee Brill

Betty L. Brill, 85, of Ottawa, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Village Plaza in Ottawa. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. She was born June 9, 1923, in Burr Oak to Culver and Rena (Gates) Miller. She lived in Ottawa since 1936. She attended Ottawa High School. She was a sewing machine operator for Mode O'Day Garment Factory for 29' years from Feb. 5, 1953, to July of 1982. She was a member of First United Methodist Church; Aerie Lodge No. 2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post No. 5901 Auxiliary, all of Ottawa. Betty was united in marriage with Hayward J. 'Hub' Brill Sept. 9, 1961, in Miami, Oklahoma. He survives at Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence. Survivors also include daughters, Karen Miller of Ottawa; Patricia Horne and her husband, Bob, of Vassar; and Linda Potocnik and her husband, Rudy, of Chanute; sons, Gary Gumm and his wife, Susan, of Omaha, Neb.; and Dennis Gumm and his wife, Merry Lou, of Douglass; a brother-Curtis 'Corky' Miller of Richmond; granddaughters, Nancy Mitchell and her husband, Randy; Debbie Horne; Brenda Dean; Shelley Baker and her husband, Mike; Nancy Fournier and her husband, Paul; Megan Housh and her husband, Wade; Amy Gumm and Laurie Gumm; grandsons, Tim Horne and his wife, Angie; Steve Horne; Gregg Potocnik; Jason Potocnik and his wife, Alyssia; and Bryan Gumm and his wife, Stacie; 25 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Miller, and a sister, Audrey Taylor. Friends may pay their respects to after 9 a.m. Tuesday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Olathe Hospice, in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
