Bernice Ruth Mallory

Bernice Ruth Mallory was born on Monday, June 12, 1916, in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. She was the daughter of Vern and Ruth Wilcox-Gish Barton. A lifelong resident, Bernice made her home in Williamsburg, Kansas, until her death on Sunday, November 23, 2008, at the age of ninety-two years. Bernice graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1935. She was a devoted homemaker who dearly loved, and enjoyed caring for, her family and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and well known for her delicious homemade bread and rolls. She served on the Williamsburg Board of Education and as Corresponding Secretary for Williamsburg High School Alumni Association. She was also a Cub Scout leader for many years and member of the Sac Creek Social Club. On January 16, 1941, Bernice was united in marriage with Leslie Ray “Buzz” Mallory. They shared sixty-three years of marriage. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Duane Barton, Bernal Barton, and Reeze Barton. Mrs. Mallory is survived by her son, Carol Mallory and his wife, Linda, of Williamsburg, Kansas; half sister, Verna Richards of Topeka, Kansas; granddaughter, Mindy Baker and her husband, Casey, of Collins, Iowa; two grandsons, Mark Mallory of Overland Park, Kansas, Michael Mallory and his wife, Kristin, of Lawrence, Kansas; two great-grandsons, Jackson Ray Mallory and Peyton Michael Mallory, both of Lawrence, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. Family will meet with friends at Dengel Son Mortuary, 1-2p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2008, then process to Mt. Olivet Cemetery for graveside services at 2:30p.m. Memorials to Williamsburg Alumni Association, c/o Dengel Son Mortuary 235 S. Hickor St., Ottawa, Kansas.
