Alma Debrick

Alma Dora Debrick, age 88, passed away at the Olathe Medical Center, Wed., Sept. 17, 2008. Services will be Friday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 AM at the Block Trinity Lutheran Church, with visitation Thurs. evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS. Alma was born March 18, 1920 to Herman and Katherine (Prothe) Clausen, in Block, KS. She attended the Trinity Lutheran School and married Lester Debrick on Sept. 28, 1947 in Ottawa, KS, and they were looking forward to celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary on Sept. 28. Alma and Lester raised four children at their home near Block: Sandra, Nancy, Connie and Steve, with Alma staying at home to raise the family. She was involved as project leader for the 4-H Club and later in the 1970s became a Stanley Home Products dealer, continuing until her death. She was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Ladies' Aid and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Alma's greatest pleasures included gardening and cooking for her family and quilting, making special quilts for all of her family members. She also looked forward to the Sunday night card games with family and friends. Alma is preceded in death by her parents, brother Clarence, great grandson Chase Alan Jones, and great granddaughter Grace Elaine Jones. Survivors are husband Lester of the home, daughters, Sandy Schultz and husband Darrel of Paola, KS, Nancy Green and husband Tom of West Des Moines, IA, Connie Barnett and husband Michael of Kansas City, MO, and son Steve Debrick and wife Bobbie Jo of Paola, KS, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, two sister-in-laws Pearl Doherty, and Oreta Wadley and husband Richard, and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her greatly.
