Alan McMillen, age 55, of Olathe, Kansas, died suddenly Friday, August 31, 2012. He was born on Monday, December 24, 1956 in Ottawa, the son of Frank Lee and Marilyn Louise (Strobel) McMillen. Alan was near lifelong Ottawa resident and graduated from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1975. He has lived in Olathe since 2007. Alan farmed his entire life. In the late 1970’s he was employed as a fabricator by Commodore Mobile Homes, later known as Bendix. In the early 1980’s thru the 1990’s he was a sales representative for Underwood Equipment in Ottawa. Alan continued his farm equipment sales at Caldwell Implement Company in Garnett. He later was employed by Havens Steel as a welder and at the Walmart Distribution Center, both of Ottawa. Alan was presently working as a forklift operator for Ingersoll Rand of Olathe. Alan was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ottawa, and a former member of Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Ottawa Men’s Bowling Association. He was an avid fan of Kansas University Men’s Basketball and enjoyed golfing. He loved his dogs Babs and Minnie. Alan was united in marriage with Sue Huske, they divorced. He married Marti Dick, they later divorced. He is survived by his daughter, Erin Coffman and her husband John of Ottawa; a step-son, Jacob Kirkland and his wife Michelle of Nebraska City, Nebraska; Mother, Marilyn McMillen of Ottawa; two sisters, Shari Bishop of Ottawa, Janis Heck and her husband Larry of Ottawa; grandson, Austin Coffman of Ottawa; step-grandson, Jadyn of Nebraska City; nephew, Travis Heck; four nieces, Julie Heck, Jenny Heck, Trudy Kleitz and Kristi McDaniel. Alan is preceded in death by his father Frank L. McMillen in 1998. Funeral Services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary, 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 5, 2012. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. McMillen at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa. The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary 235 S. Hickory St. Ottawa, KS 66067.
