Agnes Louise Boyd

Agnes Louise Boyd, 92, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Richmond Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. Family will meet with friends from 10:00 a.m. to noon, Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Lakeland Funeral Home, Eddyville, Kentucky. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Eddyville. Agnes was born March 8, 1922 and grew up in the small town of Eddyville. She was the daughter of Basil and Lena (Bell) Talley. At seven years of age, Agnes began piano lessons. Before long she became a natural, playing anything by ear. She was even chosen to play and tap dance for the movie, “Our Gang”. As a little girl she met her sweetheart, James Robert Boyd, in first grade. They married December 26, 1939, during their senior year at Eddyville High School. After graduation, in 1940, they fulfilled their dream of moving to Chicago to begin their lives together. Later, they resided in Evansville, Indiana, where Agnes worked for a short period of time, during World War II, for the Ammunition’s Factory. They were blessed with three sons. Agnes was a kind and loving mother who devoted her life to her family. She was also a grandmother who was lovingly known as “Mama” to all her grandchildren. She treasured her time with each one. She was an active member of the Eddyville First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and played the organ and piano. She also used her musical talent to minister in nursing homes. Agnes is lovingly survived by her sons, C. Jeffrey Boyd and wife Karen of Belleville, Illinois, Jim Boyd and wife Tava of Bowling Green, Missouri, and Rev. Jon Boyd and wife Joyce of Ottawa, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Tom Boyd of Kansas City, Missouri, Jay Boyd and wife Angie of Belton, Missouri, Sonya Gonzalez and husband Jeff of Normal, Illinois, Tara Rose and husband James of Newcastle, Wyoming, Jamie Dieringer and husband Aaron of Hawaii Kai, Oahu, Matthew Boyd and wife Lara of Ottawa, Nathan Boyd and wife Hannah of Ottawa, James Boyd of Manchester, Missouri, and Sarah Boyd of Ottawa; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; three nieces, Debbie Hooks of Eddyville, Mischelle Talley of New Albany, Indiana, and Alana White Maddux and husband Buddy of Nashville, Tennessee; and two nephews, Charles Talley of Hollywood, California, and Fred Thomas of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Boyd July 23, 2002, after 62 years of marriage; her parents; sister, Jane Thomas; and brother, Charles Talley. Agnes was welcomed home by her Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be forever cherished and remain in the hearts and thoughts of her family and friends.
